McTaggart Construction: £25,000 to Simon Community Scotland
McTaggart Construction, one of Scotland’s leading providers of social and affordable housing, marked its 80th anniversary in 2026 with a total charitable donation of £80,000 across three organisations: £1,000 for every year of the company’s history. The largest portion, £25,000, went to Simon Community Scotland, a frontline homelessness charity working with adults and young people across the country.
A large part of the share went to the Connect Hub in Glasgow, a specialist safe space for women experiencing homelessness. Further funding was set aside for opportunities and experience days in North Lanarkshire, and for the Make a House a Home initiative, which supports people moving into settled accommodation after a period of homelessness.
Cruden Group: A £1 Billion Pipeline and 3,500 Homes
The second announcement is one with longer-term implications. Cruden Group, the Edinburgh-based housebuilder, reported a development pipeline worth more than £1 billion, with over 3,500 homes planned across Scotland.
For the homelessness and welfare sector, large-scale affordable housing delivery matters enormously. Scotland’s temporary accommodation system is under record pressure precisely because there are not enough permanent homes to move people into. Every affordable home that is built and allocated reduces, however slightly, the pressure on councils, charities, and emergency services that are currently bearing an unsustainable load.
