The Kitchen

The first step on our cleaning checklist for moving out of a commercial space is the kitchen. As this is a high traffic area in any business, some parts may need more cleaning than others. For example, you may need to deep clean appliances – particularly if you have an oven. Here are a few things to ensure the kitchen is left sparkling clean. Within the kitchen, you’ll need to:
  • Wipe down all the countertops and backsplash
  • Clean the hob (if applicable)
  • Clean inside all of the kitchen cupboards

The Toilets

  • Clean the showers, including taps (if applicable)

  • Wipe down any mirrors
  • Dust any light fittings

The Staff Room/Communal Spaces

These spaces may not have many surfaces to clean. However, dusting is recommended. Within the staff room/communal spaces, clean:
  • Hoover any upholstered furniture
  • Dust down light fittings and skirting boards
  • Dust any other surfaces that may need cleaning, such as tables, reception desks

The Meeting Rooms

Meeting rooms are similar to the staff room and communal spaces in that they may not require deep cleaning. Within the meeting rooms aim to clean:
  • Any fireplaces (if applicable)
  • Dust skirting boards and light fittings
  • Clean inside any fitted cabinets
  • Wipe down fitted cabinet doors

The Storage Space

If the commercial rental property has a storage space, you’ll also need to clean out this space. The storage space requires:
  • The emptying of any belongings
  • The wiping down of any shelving areas
  • The sweeping of the floors

The Offices

This is where the main part of the action happens, however most people do not rent the electrical equipment, such as computers and printers, with their rented space. So, most of your attention will be on cleaning any remaining equipment and furnishings. These cleaning tasks are required:
  • Hoover any upholstered furniture
  • Dust light fittings, ceiling fans and skirting boards
  • Wipe out any fitted cabinets and shelving units
  • Wipe down any remaining technology, such as thermostats, security controls
  • Remove all belongings from fitted cupboards and from walls

Everywhere

There are some cleaning duties that you can undertake in every space of a commercial property, including any hallways. These cleaning tasks include:
  • Remove any nails from the wall, add filler, smooth over and paint
  • Wipe down windows and blinds
  • Dust down ledges
  • Mop all hard flooring
  • Vacuum carpeted floors – a steam cleaner may also be required
  • Wipe down radiators
  • Wipe down all doors
  • Clean handles/door knobs with an antibacterial wipe
  • Clean any tiled walls
  • Remove any cobwebs

The Garden

If your commercial property has access to a garden space, it will require a quick tidy up. To restore the garden, it’s important that you:
  • Mow the lawn (if applicable)
  • Dig up any weeds, including from paved areas
  • Remove any of your belongings from outdoor space/storage
  • Brush any paving to eliminate rubbish

Make Any Additional Repairs

Remember, before you leave the property to make any repairs that need doing. These may just be quick jobs, but they could affect your deposit if not completed. Consider the small things, including:
  • Painting any walls that may have been damaged
  • Patching up any holes made by picture frames or curtain rails
  • Removing any shelving that you’ve put up
  • Removing any marks or stains
  • Restoring any alterations you’ve made while renting the space

Before you move out, gather cleaning products together to ensure you have all the tools you need. Depending on the size of the premises, you may need to purchase more cleaning equipment.
